Would you consider this 'typical' for a young adult vampire novel?

It sounds like you have some interesting ideas, and it's definitely well thought out. I'm personally not a fan of vampires myself, but it sounds like a story I might give a shot if a friend of mine told me it was something they had liked. So...no, not typical at all. And don't worry about what everybody else is doing...there's always room out there for good ideas.
