Dan Akerson, CEO of General Motors, is pushing a federal gas tax of .50 or 1.00 per gallon.?

He claims that forcing auto makers to produce fuel efficient cars is not doing enough to help the environment. A high gas tax would, on the other hand, force people to buy the new fuel efficient cars. It seems he is trying to use the government to coerce the public into purchasing new cars and increasing sales. Do you think that the partnership between the federal government and corporate America has gotten out of control and is damaging the economy? If so, what do you think the public can do about it that still follows legal and Constitutional guidelines?
